Ernest Preston "Preacher" Monroe

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest "Preacher" Preston Monroe, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend who departed this life peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on November 3, 1953, in Pleasanton, Texas, Preacher spent his life in the service of others, fostering connections and spreading joy wherever he went.
Preacher is remembered for his vibrant spirit and the warmth he brought to those around him. He was a graduate of Pleasanton High School and then continued to Warden Jr. College. He dedicated over 25 years of his life to the trucking industry, working as a truck driver for Basse and previously for Atascosa Mining Company. His passion for the open road was rivaled only by his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys, a team he cheered on with great enthusiasm.
Affectionately nicknamed "Preacher," because he had a gift for conversation. He never met a stranger, that his hearty smile could not light up any room. His kindness and humor left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
Preacher is survived by his beloved son, Justin Monroe; his grandson, Mekhi Monroe; and his siblings, Dorie Monroe, Betty Pryor, Gwen Stevens, Diane Monroe, and Terry (Paula) Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee Monroe and Ellen Louise Monroe, and his brother, Hollis Monroe. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. A public viewing will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and share cherished memories. Following the service, Ernest will be laid to rest at Jacobs Chapel Cemetery.
In this time of sorrow, we reflect on the joy and laughter Ernest brought into our lives. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment and embrace life with the same enthusiasm he embodied.
Pallbearers will be Mike Salinas, Marcus Devane, Terrance Monroe, Jamal Monroe, Robert Bazan, and Mario Chapa.
