David A. Monroe
Jacksonville - David A. Monroe, 67, of Jacksonville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at The Grove in Jacksonville.
He was born July 3, 1958, the son of James Calvin and Inez (Wood) Monroe. He married Mary Jane Lash and they later divorced. He later married Diana (Grob) Glaenzer on Dec. 1, 1991, at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by seven children, Becky (Charlie) Grinkey of Jacksonville, Clint (Jennifer) Monroe of Jacksonville, David J. (Lora) Monroe of O'Fallon, IL, John Glaenzer of Woodridge, Michael (Brandi) Glaenzer of Jacksonville, Andy Glaenzer of Jacksonville, and Matthew (Rosa) Glaenzer of Jacksonville; thirteen grandchildren, Tabitha Smith, Michael Smith, Hanna Monroe, Sofia Monroe, Olivia Monroe, Alyssa Monroe, Kenlee Monroe, Kiley Glaenzer, Elijah Glaenzer, Naomi Glaenzer, Donna Harbaugh, Dominic Clark, and Aerowynn Clark; six great grandchildren, Jayden Smith, Arianna Smith, Marlei Smith, Westley Smith, Perseus White, and Joseph Harbaugh; two sisters, Mary Shipley of Roodhouse, and Joyce Barnes of Jerseyville; and two brothers, Fred (Cindy) Monroe of Jacksonville, and Rusty (Paula) Monroe of Pittsfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and by Mary Jane's parents, Charlie and Dicie Lash; and one granddaughter, Amelia.
Dave was a 1976 graduate of North Greene High School. He had worked for Jacksonville School District, MacMurray College, and later retired from Morgan County Housing. In his free time, he was a self-employed contractor and had constructed numerous decks, porches, home additions and roofs in the Jacksonville area. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. David was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed fishing. Most of all, he especially loved being a grandfather.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Salem Lutheran Church, with burial at Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church and School, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association. Condolences may be sent online at airsman-hires.com.
