Wichita, Kansas - Ernest William Sponsel, age 96, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Rosary, 7pm, Thursday, February 5 and Funeral Mass, 10:30am, Friday, February 6, BOTH at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Arleen (Winderlin) Sponsel; parents, Ernest C. and Bessie (Murdock) Sponsel; 12 brothers and sisters; sons in-law, Alfred Martin and Tim Herl. Survived by children, Shirley (Don) Martin-Grimm of Goddard, Clarence (Carol) Sponsel, Ernie (Vicky) Sponsel, Mary Foulk-Herl all of Wichita, Arleen (Tom) Bergkamp of Clearwater, Dorothy (Byron) Bergkamp of Mt. Hope, David Sponsel of Wichita, John (Barbara) Sponsel of Goddard, Therese (Dennis) Seiler of Wichita, Theodore (Susan) Sponsel of Goddard, and Paul (Rachel) Sponsel of Garden Plain; siblings, Ira Sponsel of Pittsburg and Evelyn Spainhower of Texas; 67 grandchildren; 120 + great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren.
