Ernest Thompson

Ernest Julian "Ernie or Bird" Thompson the son of the late Clinton and Jul an Thompson was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 13th 1938. He was the eldest of four children. At age 21 he relocated to Paterson, NJ.
He was united in marriage to his beloved Estelle (Gaines). Three daughters were born to this union. Ernest will be remembered as a hardworking man who worked very hard throughout his life. He was employed by Classic Sanitation, as a front end driver for several years, He had such a good record as a driver and model employee, that he was asked to train other coworkers to drive front end, just before retiring.
Just before retiring he was asked to stay on a few extra months. Ernest was always laughing, singing and telling jokes. He also spoke to everyone he saw, and was a very humble man. In his spare time Ernest enjoyed his love for sports, whether it be basketball, baseball, boxing. He also loved to travel, watching action movies and late night comedy. Although he came from humble beginnings he was determined to make his way in life.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Maxine Morrell, Clinton Larry Thompson, and William Michael Thompson, favorite cousin, Sherman Cottrell.
He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Hackensack Meridian Health Hospital.
Cherished memories will live on through his beloved wife, Estelle Thompson of Lodi, New Jersey; three daughters, Denise Thompson, Wanda Thompson-Shannon, Sharon Thompson; grandson Terrance Shannon all of Wallington, New Jersey. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, other relatives and friends who will forever cherish wonderful memories.
