Ernest Young

Ernest Felton Young, 89, of Coolidge, Georgia, passed away on January 10, 2026, at Thomasville Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home, with Rev. Ralph Fudge officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. A private interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Jack Young, Clifton Fielding, Michael Davis, and Mark West.

Ernest was born on August 23, 1936, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late George Felton Young and Mary Ola Atkinson Young. He was a lifelong mechanic and worked in auto repair, most notably with Spence Oldsmobile. He was a devoted member of Big Ochlocknee Baptist Church, where he served as an Honorary Deacon. He was married to Marion Owens Young for almost 30 years, whom preceded him in death on December 23, 2001.

He is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Quick Johnson and Annette Quick Dupree, both of Coolidge, GA, sisters Bettie Johnson (Mark) of Thomasville, Ruby Carr of Thomasville, Mary Plymel of South Carolina, and Ruthie Raper (Mike) of Tennessee, sister-in-law, Joanne Young of Thomasville, 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers James Thomas Young, George W. Young, and Alvia J. Young, and sisters Christine West and Rudean Young.
