Ernestine Bruist, 81, South Mud Lake, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Community Howard Hospital, Kokomo, surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 5, 1941, in Gideon, Mo., she was the daughter of James William and Arlie (Smith) Wilkerson. She was married to the love of her life, Robert Lee Bruist, and they shared 58 years together.
She had been a hairdresser for many decades, owning and operating several shops in Fairmount and Kokomo before retiring to South Mud Lake where she has spent over 20 years. She loved quilting and was well known for her spirited personality. She was also a fantastic musician who was very skilled with her piano playing.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Bruist, South Mud Lake; one daughter, Connie Bruist (Trent) Helms, St. Johns, Fla.; bonus children, Archie and Debbie Haney, Huntington; daughter-in-law, Peggy Bruist, Kokomo; six grandchildren, Rob Bruist, Florida, Nicole Bruist, Kokomo, Brandy Anderson and Frank Jones III, both of Florida, Jason Fagaly and Nicholas Fagaly, both of Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clyde (Barbara) Wilkerson, Zephyr Hills, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gene Bruist; one grandson, Michael Bruist; in addition to nine siblings.
Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver. A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
