Ernestine Beatrice Langdon May 29, 1950 – April 12, 2025
Ernestine Beatrice Langdon (Malone) was born May 29, 1950, in Springfield, Illinois, to Robert and Laura Malone. She transitioned peacefully on April 12, 2025, at the age of 74 at Henry Ford Hospital. Ernestine was the 7th of 11 children. Affectionately known as Ernie, she married Larry Langdon in 1967, and together they raised four boys: Larry (Nicole A. Langdon), LaJuan, Kevin (Nicole L. Langdon), and Keith. Ernie worked for the Detroit Public Schools for ten years, where she shaped young minds with love, patience, and commitment until her retirement in 1999.
In 1991, Ernestine took on a new role as "Grandma" when her first grandchild, Kiara (Kevin), was born. She loved being a grandmother to all her grandchildren – Kyra and Kera (Kevin); Madisyn and twins, Kourtney and Kennedy (Larry); Brianna (LaJuan); and Keith, Jr., Gabrielle, and Kevin (Keith). Ernie was well loved and cherished by all those who had the pleasure of meeting her and being a part of her family. Her cooking was enough to make you want to visit weekly. She also enjoyed farming with her husband, though she always joked she was tired of "going to that farm." Yet, she always returned with vegetables and pickles to share. She leaves to mourn her siblings, Booker, Louise (Jeff), Deb (Doug), and Delford, who loved her dearly. Her siblings who preceded her in death were Erskine, Laura (Marvin), Shirley (Alan), Robert (Ann), Saul, and Henry (Tonia). She also leaves her great grandchildren, Jaxon (Kiara); DaKota (Kyra); and Nalah and Zara (Brianna), to remember the love she had for them. There is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and numerous others who will always love and keep her close.
Though we feel the great pain of losing such an amazing woman, we know that one day we will be able to see her again, be able to embrace her, chat, and as she so diplomatically tells you, hear her say, " well, let me let ya go."
