Ernestine A. Majors was born on January 4, 1939, in Nashville, TN Her Parents were Ernest And Evelyn Love Taylor. She was the third of seven children and only girl in her family. Her seven brothers were Newty Jones, Marshall Jones, Earl Taylor, William Taylor (Billy), Robert Taylor and John Veasy (Johnny).
She received her education from Nashville Public Schools. She graduated from Pearl High School with Honors in 1958 and married John T. Majors in 1958. To this union three beautiful children were born, Catherine Elaine Majors, Darryl Majors and Gregory Deon Majors. In 1960, Ernestine received a four-year scholarship from Tennessee State University where she received her undergraduate and master's degree in mathematics. She began her professional career teaching mathematics in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. She taught for 25 years, and, during her career, she was selected to be one of the first teachers to test racial integration of public schools in Nashville. After Ernestine retired, her love for shaping young minds led her to continue teaching and tutoring underserved children at the Charles Davis Foundation After School Program for ten years as the Program Director. She also loved to travel and see the world, so she became a Travel Agent for ten years where she traveled to many countries. Her greatest joy was visiting the Holy Land and Africa.
Ernestine gave her life to Christ at an early age at Westwood Baptist Church. As a teenager, she joined Friendship Baptist Church where she played the piano for the Sunday School. In 1964 she joined 15th Avenue Baptist Church where she later became a Deacon. She also represented 15th Ave Baptist Church as a Mentor at Bunea Vista Elementary School. As her journey through life continued, her faith grew stronger. As her health declined, she retired from physical activity, but she continued to be an active voice in her Church Ministry.
Ernestine is preceded in death by her mother Evelyn Veasy and father Ernest Taylor, all her siblings, and her two children Catherine Elaine Majors and Gregory Deon Majors. Left to cherish the many memories of Ernestine are her son Darryl Majors and grandchildren; Youlonda Smith, Alexis Springer, Deon Majors, Taryn Mills, Kiara Lee, Gina Idoll and Marcus Majors. Additionally, she has 16 great grand children, three devoted Sister-in-Laws; Dixie Taylor, Juanita Veasy, LaVernge Jones, many nieces and nephews and her beloved Church Family 15th Avenue Baptist Church.
