Errol L. Douglas
It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Errol Littleton Douglas Sr., who died at the age of 82 on Monday, November 25, 2024. "Doug" passed away peacefully in West Bloomfield in the loving care of his children. He was a beloved father to 8 children: Wendy Belle, Christina Douglas, Errol Douglas II (wife: Rudenia), Laura Armstrong (husband: Benjamin "Ben"), Malcolm Douglas, Karyn Dodge, Melanie Hennings, and Lorre Douglas. He was also a cherished Grand Dad (don't call him a grandpa!) of 18 grandchildren: Kiara Triplett, Uneque Volel, Tylre Belle, Kyle McGough, Kiana Skillman, Shaylena Dodge, Errol Douglas III, Arliene Armstrong, Braydon Dodge, Amelia Armstrong, Syian Douglas, Michaela Hennings, Hailey Hennings, Malcolm Douglas-Ruttan Jr., Arya Hennings, Ethan Douglas, Grace Ruttan, JeJuan Jr. and one Great Grandchild: Kaiden Alexander. Doug also has 5 loving siblings surviving him: Roslyn "Sister Baby" Stewart, Callie "Red" Holloway, Gregory Johnson (wife: Patricia), Mark Johnson, and Tammy Pittman along with 5 late siblings: William Douglas, Gwendolyn Douglas, Ronald Douglas, Brooksie Pickett, and Darrell Johnson, along with many surviving nieces and nephews.
Doug was the son of William Douglas and Callie (Burkley) Johnson, however, he was raised by the loving Miss Laura Marie Blanks in Memphis, Tennessee. In his early twenties, he moved to Michigan to begin his career at Ford Motor Company and ended up retiring in the early 2000's allowing him to focus on his hobbies: bowling and photography. He was a professional and a perfectionist in his talents bowling over a 200 score during practice! As well as having you smile for minutes to capture the right angle, the right lighting, the right moment, to develop the perfect picture. He transitioned his art form from developing film in the basement to utilizing digital cameras, editing pictures for hours on the computer.
Additionally, "Doug" was an advocate of getting an education and a leading example for his children, accomplishing his associate's degree at Wayne County Community College in the early 80's. He would always say "I have my Associate's, so you have to get your bachelor's". In the end, he created Engineers, Business owners, a Logistics Sr. expert, a Chemist, and a Speech therapist.
In 2013, "Doug" found a church home (Note: he grew up in the church and frequently went with Miss Marie Blanks, so the transition to be involved heavily in the church was easily made). He became a member at Whitehead Cathedral Church of God in Christ (COGIC) (formerly Whitehead Memorial COGIC) and was accompanied by his daughter who was a praise dancer and his other daughter who moved to Texas. He was in church 3 days a week attending bible study; creating a prayer line with many of his brothers (to name a few): Elder Saxton, Elder Jack Whitehead, Deacon Mason, and Deacon Ottis Bell; shoveling snow and any other services requested by the late Bishop James Whitehead Jr.
In 2023, "Doug" made another remarkable accomplishment with accepting a deacon confirmation becoming Deacon Douglas by Dr. Pastor Avery Brown of Whitehead Cathedral COGIC. In his final hours, his daughters called the 9am prayer line so he was able to receive his last prayer with his brothers.
Rather you knew him as Doug, Mr. Douglas, Errol, Dad, Uncle, Granddad, or Deacon Douglas, in the end, he was a blessing to all, but most importantly, he was also blessed by having so many that loved him. Thank you to all the loving family, friends, and church family because you made his life incredible! Stay Blessed!
A funeral service will be held on December 4th at 11am located at Whitehead Cathedral Church of God in Christ 2069 Tyler Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48198 with visitation 10 am until time of service. In honor of Deacon Douglas, donations may be made to the church.

I´m so surprised to hear about Errol´s transition. I send my condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his entire Douglas family. I to worked at Ford Motor Company, I came to know Errol while bowling in a league. He was a competitive bowler and it was always fun to bowl against him. Errol will be truly missed, RIP my friend.

My condolonces to the family and especially to his wife Katina, of the last 24 years. A true reflection of poor character has been made by not making mention of you, who aided him through many insurmountable ailments he faced and always reminded him where he got his strength from. May GOD heal all the hearts that are mourning this loss.

My shared experiences with Errol are indeed personal and comical. It all began in Memphis, Tennessee. Being brother and sister we were also "partners in crime." We are only one year in apart, in age, and I guess we could have been twins of sort, we were tiny. We had so many fun times in Memphis, so please indulge me while I share a few.

Errol taught me how to spit from a balcony and sometimes there were people below. We would venture down to the bayou that was near our house and when it would rain the water would rise and we would spend hours just watching objects and trash float by (what fun!). We took turns rolling each other inside tires and sometimes, at night, we would go beneath houses searching for big black bugs to catch and sell to bait stores (our first small business). We were offered orange sherbet by a lady from church one evening. Wide eyed and puzzled we looked questioningly at each other (we had never heard of or knew what that was) but said "yes ma'am" and have been dancing happily ever since. Whenever we are together we always have to have orange sherbet and reminise.
There were so many fruit trees in Memphis and we luckily found one full of figs. The tree had to be climbed because there was a very large dog in the yard. We took a chance and Errol almost fell in. We hardly got any figs and that was the end of that venture (I was a better climber than him).
We spent a great deal of time in church with Aunt Rea where there was a lot of loud music/tambourines/ singing and jumping. No matter how good the "beat" two of us knew better not to "jump." One didn't and suffered the consequences. Errol and I just sang loudly and clapped our hands. Good, good music. Aunt Rea had us singing as a trio on several occasions in church, but two of us never thought about making that a career. One did and took to the stage, winning $10.00 (not mentioning any names).
Least I forget Saturday movies for at least 4 to 5 hours of Hop a long Cassidy, The 3 Stooges or The Little Rascals, a cartoon and a chapter play. You had to tune in/come back next week to see if the main character died, was hurt, got the girl, the horse or whatever.
I am left here for a little while to enjoy these wonderful memories with my children but to my sweet, sweet brother "you and I will continue our "peaceful and blessed antics" up yonder. Until then, I love you "Big eye Roo."
