The Obituary

Erroll Houston Newton

Erroll Houston Newton was born on February 24, 1961, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Lloyd G. Newton and Johnnie Mae Newton. At an early age, he was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he began developing the faith and values that would guide him throughout his life.

Erroll took great pride in the way he was raised and in the lessons his father instilled in him. Those values shaped the man he became and the way he led his own family. He believed strongly in being present, setting an example, and doing what was necessary to provide a better life for his children.

Throughout his life, Erroll worked hard to provide for his family. Later in life, he embraced a quieter season of retirement, dedicating much of his time to helping raise and care for his grandchildren-something that brought him tremendous joy and fulfillment.

Erroll was also known for his athletic ability. During his younger years, he excelled in both basketball and football, earning the respect of teammates and members of the Ashville community. Football, in particular, became one of his greatest passions, and his accomplishments on the field left a lasting impression in his hometown. In recognition of those achievements, he was inducted into the Ashville Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

More than anything, Erroll loved being a father and a "Papa." His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy. He treasured the time he spent with them-making sure they got on and off the school bus safely, attending their sporting events, and simply being present in their lives. Those everyday moments meant the world to him.

Erroll was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd G. Newton; his mother, Johnnie Mae Newton; and his brothers, Lloyd Newton Jr. and Paul Newton Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 33 years, Glorine Newton of Ashville, Alabama; his sons, Xavier (Breanna) Newton of Pinson, Alabama and Alex Newton of Birmingham, Alabama; and his daughters, Alexis Newton and Sara Patton of Ashville, Alabama.

He also leaves five beloved grandchildren: Xavien, Madeleyn, Ailani, Myles, and Jahmari.

He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Sherry Newton of Birmingham, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Angie Williams of Ashville, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Stanley Williams of Gadsden, Alabama, Marcus Williams of Ashville, Alabama, Marwin Moss of Ragland, Alabama, and Corneilius Moss of Pell City, Alabama; along with godchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many close friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

Erroll will be remembered for the pride he took in his family, the example he tried to set, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him.
