Age 80, of Haugen, WI, formerly of Rice Lake, WI, died Monday, May 13, 2024 in Chetek, WI.
He was born on October 4, 1943 in Twin Valley, MN to Oscar and Blenda (Olman) Samshal. Sam graduated from High School and then entered the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era, he was later Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He was married to DeeAnn Haugen on July 31, 1970 in Rice Lake. Sam worked as a salesman for Gamble Robinson, Food Services of America and Sysco Food for many years. He also worked for Jennie-O and Kwik Trip.
Sam was very involved in the Rice Lake American Legion, the Rice Lake Veteran Honor Guard for many years and recently the Haugen American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music, visiting with people when he delivered Meals on Wheels and followed the Minnesota Twins.
He is survived by his children, Eric (Holly) Samshal, Jenny Samshal and Kristin (Tyler) Heep; 3 grandchildren, Stella, Benjamin and Elise; 2 sisters, Helen (Roy) Pinske and Beverly Hovde; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, DeeAnn Samshal; his parents, Oscar and Blenda Samshal; a brother, Milan Samshal; 2 sisters, Janice Samshal Peterick and Marlene Hall.
A celebration of his life will be held from 11AM-1PM Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, where Full Military Rites will be accorded him by the Rice Lake Veteran Honor Guard in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Rice Lake Veterans Center.
