Erwin Carl Betz of Barrington, IL passed peacefully on March 30, 2024 surrounded in love by his children and grandchildren in Tennessee. He will be remembered for his warm smile, resilient spirit and capacity to dream big. Erwin enjoyed many passions throughout his life including motorcycles, science, photography, kayaking, swimming and boating. He was an avid inventor with many patents to his name and a founder of two businesses both in the United States and Germany that remain a legacy to his family today.
Erwin will be deeply missed by his four children Julia (Dennis) Lincoln, Christine (Roger) Masonick Urban, Marcia (Jeffrey) Hovorka and Mark (Christine) Betz; his grandchildren Stephanie (Vernon) Davidson, Matthew Lincoln, Christopher Lincoln, Emily (Christopher) Miller, Heidi (Michael) Howerton, Nicholas Hovorka, Eric Betz, Alexander (Renee) Hovorka, Jacob (Taylor) Betz, Nathan Hovorka, and Lauren Betz; great grandchildren, who were so fortunate to know him, Isabella, Franklin, Elizabeth Jane, Hannah, Connor, James, Gideon, Caroline, Abigail and Natalie and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Theresa Betz, his parents Karl Jakob and Juliane Betz his siblings William Betz and Gerda Hackemann.
The interment will be private. The family will celebrate Erwin’s and Mary’s lives with a memorial service for friends and extended family at 1pm on Sunday August 4, 2024 at St. Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St., Barrington, IL 60010.
