Ester Jean Wilson was born in Bruceton, Tennessee on August 8, 1947, to the late Ema Jean Teague and James Curtis Hicks. For 78 years, Ester lived a life with purpose, and when the end grew near it was well with her soul! She fought a good fight. She finished her race of life and entered eternal rest on Friday, September 12, 2025.
In addition to her parents, Ester was preceded in death by her husband, Larry K. Wilson, daughter, Maria Angeneta Wilson and 3 siblings, Larry Teague, Lester Hicks and Bobby Tharpe.
Ester was introduced to Christ at an early age. She dedicated her life to God and was baptized under the leadership of the late, Rev. Willie Wortham at Mt. Pisgah AME Church in Hollow Rock, Tn. From that moment, Ester’s life was closely associated with God, and she was involved in His work.
Throughout her spiritual journey, she served in the church……the choir, the usher board, the mother’s board and the hospitality ministry. Over the years she was a faithful member to Mt. Vernon MB Church in Madison, Tn., Mt. Zion Church in Paris, Tn. and later united with Greater Mt. Nebo MB. Church in Hollow Rock, Tn. where she served until her passing.
Ester received her education from Carroll and Davidson County School Systems. She had a special love for kids and would ultimately become a very respected, loved and dedicated employee for Metro Public Schools – where she worked as school mother patrol and dietician for a number of years. She later found great enjoyment in caring for the elderly. Her career mirrored who she was. She was an amazing, loving and kindhearted woman. Ester will be remembered for her gentle/ nurturing spirit and one having a servant’s heart.
Ester met the love of her life, Larry K. Wilson when she was just a teenager. They instantly developed a love connection and were united in Holy Matrimony on March 30, 1964. From this union a family was created, and they remained married for 34 years-till death done them part.
Ester embraced life and enjoyed it to the fullest….whether cooking, shopping, spending time with her children/grandchildren, attending family gatherings, going to church or simply reading her Bible – she was sure to be INTENTIONAL with her time! Ester realized time was a gift, a gift she didn’t take for granted.
She absorbed every moment, appreciating every second with gratitude. Her strong faith gave the blue print for going through while wearing a smile. Ester will be greatly missed by all that loved and adored her. Her luminous light will shine bright for years to come.
