Esther Marie (Horsch) Lund was born on July 21, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of John Frederick and Elsie (Kastendick) Horsch. Esther was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. She received her education attending parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran School and graduating from North High School in Minneapolis.
On August 27, 1960, Esther was united in marriage to James John Lund at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They were blessed with two children, Deborah and John. The family made their home in Crystal and New Hope. Esther and James celebrated 27 years of marriage prior to James passing on February 18, 1987.
Esther wore many hats during her working career. She began working after high school as a mail clerk for Lutheran Brotherhood, and following her marriage, took on the role of homemaker. After Jim's death, she returned to Lutheran Brotherhood in the claims department, completing claims for those who had passed away. She continued in this role for many years until her retirement on February 28, 2003.
Esther had a strong faith that was evident in her daily life. She loved singing in the church choir and sharing her gift of music by also singing at area nursing homes. Over the years, she also served her church on the altar guild and teaching vacation bible school. She valued her time spent at bible study, growing in and sharing her Christian faith, wanting those who entered her life to know the Lord. As she developed health issues, Esther moved to Fairmont and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Esther treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She looked forward to yearly trips to Duluth with her sisters and also traveling to new and exciting places with family and friends
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah (Rev. Anthony) Bertram of Fairmont, MN, and John (Kathy) Lund of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Grace Bertram, Alexander (fiancé, Maddie Gilbertson) Bertram, Abby (Cristiano) Costa, Brenna Lund and Noah Lund; one great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Oda Keske of Simpsonville, SC; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elsie Horsch; husband, James Lund; a still born daughter; siblings, Raymond Horsch, Ruth Vogel, Irene Morgenweck, and Edith Harms; in-laws, Lois Horsh, Gene Vogel, Donald Morgenweck, Dick Harms and Ross Keske; as well as other family.
The family requests memorials be given in Esther's name to St. Paul Lutheran Church "Brick By Brick" or Anna Keck Tuition Aid for St. Paul Lutheran School.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodland Manor, Lakeview Methodist Home, and UHD Hospice for their loving care for Esther.
