Funeral service for Marlene G. Simmering, 90, of Fairmont, MN, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert, MN. Burial will be held following the service in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. Marlene passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Marlene Grace (Brockman) Simmering was born July 13, 1935, in Fairmont, MN, the daughter of Carol T. and Grace L. (Searcy) Brockman. She attended school in Ceylon, graduating from Ceylon High School where she was involved in many activities including band as a saxophonist, cheerleading, choir, theater, other clubs and was a class officer. Marlene graduated from Ceylon High School with the class of 1953.
On January 15, 1955, Marlene was united in marriage to Eugene E. Simmering at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert, MN. With Eugene serving in the United States Army, the couple made their home at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, GA, and Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM. After Eugene received his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Minnesota and made their home on the Simmering family farm near Fairmont and were blessed with three children, Bryan, Rochelle, and Brad.
Marlene had various work experiences throughout her life but found her greatest joy in caring for her family. Her priority was to freely and endlessly give her love and support every day, not just to her family, but also her friends who were so dear to her. She did this in the most compassionate way, but left room for her wonderful wit and sense of humor.
Without having the influence of faith in God among her family in her early childhood, the Holy Spirit working through a friend brought Marlene to her faith in God. She gave her life to Christ and was eager to share her faith through words and deeds.
Her many talents included sewing, cooking, baking, donating her time offering those skills to others, and sharing her unwavering enthusiasm and optimism. She loved flowers which paralleled her ability to find beauty in everything. She defined what it meant to love unconditionally and to be selfless, not acknowledging her own needs and always thinking of others first. Marlene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert and a member of the LWML, church choir, and frequently volunteered time to the church and school.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bryan Simmering and special friend, Judi Polzin; Bryan's children, Travis (April) Simmering and their children, Isaac and Micah, and Jessica (Jerrick) Urban and their children, Addy and Grayson; Rochelle (Jim) Franzen, and their daughter, Sasha; and Brad (Audra) Simmering and their children, Maya, Leyton and Bennett; sister-in-law, Shirley Brockman; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Simmering; parents, Carol and Grace Brockman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Alma Simmering; brothers, Arvid Brockman and Arlund Brockman; brothers-in-law, Donald Simmering and Milan Nagel; sisters-in-law, Lorna Simmering and Ardella Nagel.
