Esther Munoz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Mar. 29, 2026.
Esther Moreno Muñoz age 98 of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026 at her home. Born on May 14, 1927 in Oilton Texas, she was the first child of Ernesto and Guadalupe [Gonzalez] Moreno.

In 1951, Esther earned her registered nursing degree from Seton School of Nursing in Austin under the Sisters of Charity of St Vincent DePaul and trained at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She worked for more than 50 years in San Antonio beginning at the Nix Hospital and spending the 20+ years of her career as Director of the Good Samaritan Center Clinic on Saltillo St. She dedicated her life to her advocacy for quality healthcare for underserved populations in west San Antonio. Her work at Good Sam and her dedication to the neighborhood around the clinic touched countless families. Even before she retired from Good Sam in 1994, Esther was doing mission work. Beginning in 1979, she traveled semi-annually to the Mexican interior and the Texas-Mexico border with various medical groups to support patients and doctors during dental, medical, and eye procedures. She continued her mission work well into her 70s.

She is survived by her sisters: Enedina Villarreal, Genoveva Moreno, Elizabeth Moreno-Whitehurst, and Sandra Haire [Steve]; her brother: Rosendo Moreno [Sara]; her former husband, Arthur Muñoz, Sr. and five of their children: Annette, Carmen, Patricia, Aida [Robert], and Linda [Kevin]; 12 grandchildren: Justin, Chelsea, Brianna, Esther, Ernesto, Kristopher, Olias, Jennifer, James, Christine, Adam, and Alexander, 22 great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Arthur Muñoz, Jr., her brothers Adam, Ernesto, and Eleazar Moreno and her sister Elena Boleware.

Esther always had a listening ear and a warm hug for her family, her friends, and those she served in the community. She was a loving soul to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Esther's celebration of life service will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapel at Cherry Ridge in San Antonio on May 14, 2026 at 10:00AM.
