Second Class Petty Officer Ethan Blain Gough, 22, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 17, 2024. Ethan was born on March 23, 2001 in Parsons, Kansas to Andrea (Jay) Gough. Ethan graduated from Chanute High School in 2019 and Neosho County Community College with his Welding I and II certificates. In High School, Ethan played football, ran cross country, wrestled, and was a catcher in baseball, which was his favorite sport. Growing up Ethan was active in 4-H, showing sheep and goats, foods, photography, welding and participated in livestock judging. Welding was his favorite project, and he was Grand Champion every year while in the project. Ethan enjoyed going to NASCAR races, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals Games, especially with his Grandpa Bruce. Ethan and his mother enjoyed spending lazy days fishing together. Ethan also shared a love for horses with his mother and Grandma Furman. After graduating from Chanute High School in 2019, Ethan enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the Navy he was able to use his mechanical and welding skills as a Steel Worker. In four years, Ethan was deployed three times. His first deployment was on the USS Roosevelt and then two deployments to Japan. He was a dedicated Sailor, so much so that he quickly became a Second-Class Petty Officer in only four short years, which was very uncommon. Ethan would also marry his wife, Eva, while in the Navy. Ethan will always be remembered for being incredibly polite, quick-witted, and for having a smile that would light up the whole room. Ethan is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all of his Family and Friends. Ethan is survived by: Mother- Andrea Gough of Thayer, KS, Brother Brayden Gough of Thayer, KS Grandparents- Dr. Yolonda Gray-Furman and Husband Bruce Furman of Ft. Scott, KS, Great Grandmother- Marsha Gray of Buffalo, KS, Biological Grandparents Victor and Rhonda Amaro of Dodge City, KS Adoptive Father- Darin Gough of Iola, KS Ethan is preceded in death by his Great-Grandparents Armond Gray, Dora and Ronnie Jay, and Janice Furman, Grandparents Bernie and Wanda Gough and his great-Grandmother Irene Gough.
