Ethel Lee Marshall Brown 97, of Shelby, Virginia Passed away on November 16, 2025.
Ethel was born on September 27, 1928, in Greene County, Virginia. She was raised by Charles and Annie Rosser of Banco, Virginia, whom she lovingly considered her family.
On March 16, 1947, Ethel married the love of her life, Cecil Voyd Brown, and together they built a beautiful life and raised three children.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Cecil Voyd Brown; her daughter, Gloria Brown Shifflett; her sister, Virginia Ragland; and her brother, Richard Marshall.
Ethel retired from Comdial Corporation after more than 20 years of faithful service. She was known as an honest, hardworking, and dependable employee. Outside of work, Ethel had a passion for gardening and took great joy in cultivating a wide variety of flowers. She also enjoyed antiquing and spent many weekends exploring Central Virginia in search of unique treasures.
Ethel is survived by her loving son, Donald Brown of Shelby, Virginia, who faithfully cared for her for many years; her son Harold Brown of Somerset, Virginia; grandsons David Shifflett, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Gurabo, Puerto Rico, and Jan Shifflett and his wife Jeanie of Anchorage, Alaska; granddaughter Dr. Sarah Riedi, MD, and her husband Mitchell of Lexington, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren-Lauren, Aaron, Conner, and Trevor; son-in-law David Shifflett, Sr. and wife Margie Kirby of Waynesboro, Virginia; as well as her faithful K-9 companion Boo Boo.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont who provided compassion and support to Ethel and the family during her time of need. They would also like to extend special thanks for the long-term compassionate care provided by Melissa Rivera of Home Instead.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Preddy Funeral Home, 59 Edgewood School Ln, Madison, VA 22727. Interment following at Culpeper National Cemetery (New Section), 501 E Chandler St, Culpeper, VA 22701. Chaplin Jeff Krauss will officiate.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, November 20, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
