Ethel C. Crowell (Kelly), age 99, of Tewksbury, formerly a long-time resident of Salem, MA, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Ethel was born at home in East Boston, MA, on Christmas Day in 1925; she was the dear daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (MacDonald) Kelly. Ethel was raised and educated in East Boston and a graduate of East Boston High School with the Class of 1944.
Following graduation, Ethel married her high school sweetheart Murray Crowell; the couple settled in Salem, MA, where they raised their family. Ethel showered her family with unconditional love and devotion; she treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ethel looked forward to family holidays and celebrations throughout the years and made many wonderful memories to be shared for generations to come.
Ethel was a hard worker and was always looking out for her community; for many years she worked as a secretary for the Redevelopment Authority for the City of Salem.
In her spare time Ethel enjoyed going bowling, playing cards, especially poker and cribbage, heading out to a casino to try her luck at the slot machines, or following her favorite sports team, The Boston Red Sox. Ethel looked forward to camping trips with family and friends; she loved having everyone together and having fun.
Ethel will be fondly remembered as a wonderful lady with a heart of gold; she was always willing to help others in need and she adored her family. Ethel will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Ethel was the beloved wife of the late Murray A. Crowell, devoted mother of Steve Crowell and his late wife Roberta of Newmarket, NH, Roy Crowell and his wife Diane of Wilmington, MA, and the late Kathy Crowell. She was the loving "Nany" of Jennifer Jones and husband Keith, Brian Crowell and wife Anna, Kevin Crowell and wife Susanna, Karrie VanRyn and husband David, and Christopher Crowell, great-grandmother of Kyle, Arianna, Karina, Jenna, Allie, Savia, Sienna, Tiernan, Ethan, Teagan, and great-great grandchildren Mason and Madeline. Dear sister of the late Charles Kelly and the late Marjorie Dixon.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, April 12th from 9:00-10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA.
