ETHEL B. FERNANDEZ

23 Feb 1921 – 20 Aug 2025

"My name is Ethel B, Fernandez, I was born at home in Roff, Indian Territory, Oklahoma on 23 February 1921 in the middle of a blizzard. I was the sixth of eight children, five brothers (Leon, Wayne, Frank, Norman and Charlie) and two sisters (Beulah and Betty Jo), I was the only remaining child of Sam and Tennie Bullock.

1941 was an eventful year for many reasons! I graduated high school from Sasakwa High School (I was the only one in my family to do so), accompanied my Aunt to Brownsville, Texas and while vacationing there I met my husband, Robert L. Fernandez. We married on 21 December 1941 and enjoyed 54 wonderful years together. He joined the Navy, and we moved to San Diego, CA, then to Maine and Key West, Fl. After the war we moved to Victoria, Texas and then to Brownsville, Texas in 1947.

We had two children, Robert Fernandez, Jr (preceded me in death in 2021) and Veda Fernandez Bullock. We had three grandchildren, Robbie Gail Fernandez, Mike (Miguel) Fernandez both in Texas, Travis Lane in Washington and one great grandchild, Alex Fernandez, who preceded me in death in 2022. I lived in Brownsville from 1947 until 2009 and was a member of the Brownsville Church of Christ for 62 years. I had been a member of the Church of Christ since the age of 12. My husband died 12 November 1996 and is buried in the family plot in Brownsville, Texas. I moved to Oak Harbor, Washington on Whidbey Island to be close to my daughter in 2009 and joined the Church of Christ in Oak Harbor in 2009."

Ethel will be taken back to Brownsville, Texas at a later date to be interred next to her husband in the Fernandez family plot at the Buena Vista Cemetery.
