Ethel Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Marshall on Oct. 5, 2023.
Ethel H. Johnson, affectionately known as Ethel, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, in Longview, Texas. Born on April 25, 1936, in Gary, Texas, Ethel lived a life full of love, selflessness, and dedication to her family and work.
Ethel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sylvester Johnny Johnson; her parents, Hayward and Lillian Hudson; and her brother, Leon Hudson. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Era Norris, Irby Liu and her husband, Dr. Edward Liu, and Syonia Johnson. Ethel was a cherished grandmother to Zachary Lampkin (Fernanda), Zander Lampkin, Chad Gilbert (Jennifer), Teri Crowson (Luke), Brittany Liu Mangham (Dillon), and Mason Liu. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Jordan Lampkin, Zaia Lampkin, Kingsley Gilbert, Bellamy Gilbert, Whitley Crowson, Benjamin Crowson, Caleb Crowson, Jessie Mangham, and Josie Mangham. Ethel is also survived by her sisters, Louise Carver and Myra Posey, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Ethel's professional life was also marked by her dedication and commitment. She served as a secretary for Cowboy Windham and Hunt Oil for over 30 years before retiring. Ethel loved her job and the people she worked with, always greeting them with a hug and a kiss. Her warmth and kindness made her a beloved figure in her workplace.
Outside of work, Ethel had a passion for cooking and gardening. She took great pride in her yard and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Ethel was known for her delicious pecan pies and ice box pies, and her purple hull peas with cornbread were a family favorite. Her love for cooking was only surpassed by the joy she found in sharing her meals with family and friends.
Ethel was a woman of great love and compassion for others. She had a heart that was always open, ready to give and receive love. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met. Ethel's legacy is one of love and devotion to her family and work.
In remembering Ethel, we celebrate a life well-lived, a woman well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us. Ethel will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Longview Regional Medical Center for the love and care shown to Ethel during this time.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:00am at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am following the visitation.
