Weldon Davis, Age 88, of Gladewater, TX, passed away on March 18th, 2026 after a long life.
Weldon was born on June 5th, 1937, to Daisy Bell Mitchell Dhooge and Henry Louis Davis in Longview, TX. After Weldon graduated from Longview High School in 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Rosamond Merritt and served two years in the US Army in Alaska.
Upon returning to East Texas with their son (Danny Davis), Weldon worked at Kellyville Plow Company with his dad and worked other odd jobs. After several years, he began working with his uncle and began a lifelong career in the electrical field becoming a journeyman lineman. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was a lifelong member. Weldon was a person who enjoyed being on the road working and spending time with his co-workers.
In 1971, Weldon went into business with a good friend to form the D&W (Davis and Wallace) Fur Company. After several years, Weldon ventured out on his own to start the Davis Fur Company. He enjoyed getting to know the local farmers, hunters, and trappers in Central, TX as well as the cash profits that came with the seasonal business.
After establishing himself in the electrical field, Weldon married to Barbara Verner who he remained married to until her untimely death at the age of 52. They had two children (Sandra McNeese and Andy Davis) and moved to Gladewater, TX in the early 70s.
During his time off, Weldon coached youth softball, soccer teams, and spent time with family and friends. His friends and co-workers thought well of him and how much he gave to them and others. Weldon was also a respected member of the Gladewater Masonic Lodge where he spent much time.
During his years in retirement, Weldon spent time traveling to see friends and raising one of his grandchildren. He loved to eat, finding good deals, and trying to hustle a few bucks even though he did not need it. He enjoyed meeting new people and trying to make those he knew and met laugh.
Weldon was predeceased in death by his wife Barbara Verner Davis, father Henry Louis Davis, mother Daisy Bell Mitchell Dhooge, stepfather Desmond Dhooge, sisters Nelwyn Christopher and Melba Blake, brother Monte Dhooge, and nephew Charlie Christopher.
He is survived by his brother Patrick Dhooge (Nancy), children Danny Davis (Tiffany Stayart), Sandra McNeese, and Andy Davis nieces Ann Brown, Marie Deskus, Susan Cariker, nephews David Daughtery and Ronald Dean Daughtery. Weldon had four grandchildren and five great grandchildren
