Ethel Lynn Klavetter, (77), passed away on August 22, 2023 in Sioux Falls, SD under hospice care. Private family services will be held. Rude's Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Ethel Lynn Reiman was born to Joe and Esther (Chapman) Reiman in Martin, SD on July 18, 1946. She grew up on a family ranch east of Tuthill, SD. Her elementary years were spent at the Tuthill grade school. She graduated from Bennett County High School in Martin, SD. Ethel attended USD in Vermillion, SD.
She held various positions throughout her career. In Martin, SD she was Bennett County Deputy Treasurer. In Brookings, SD she was a dispatcher for the Brookings City Police Department and the SDSU Police Department, and a bookkeeper at Remote Sensing Institute and Fergen's.
Ethel married Emil Klavetter on July 20th, 1977 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Brookings, SD. She was blessed with two children, Brian and Lynn.
After retiring, the couple looked forward to spending winter months in Galveston, TX and Gulf Shores, AL and delighted in playing Euchre and Bingo, as well as watching Mardi Gras parades with other snowbirds. In 2016, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be near their children and grandchildren.
Ethel loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending holidays with her children and grandchildren and attending their many activities. Her hobbies included cake decorating, baking, bowling, flower gardening, and sewing.
Ethel was a member of Ascension Lutheran in Brookings, SD. After moving, she became a member of Peace Lutheran in Sioux Falls, SD.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Emil Klavetter (46 years), son Brian (Kim) Klavetter, daughter Lynn (Bob) Boyd, and grandchildren Tyler Klavetter and Kyah Klavetter all of Sioux Falls, SD, and brother-in-law LeRoy (Arlene) Klavetter of Brookings, SD.
Per Ethel's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Interment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings, SD.
