Obituary Etienne Joseph Toko

**Early Life and Background:**

Etienne Joseph Toko was born on October 5, 1962, in Léopoldville (now DRC). His father, Etienne KOTI HOBIBA, originally from Congo Brazzaville, emigrated to Léopoldville in 1937 and settled there after finding a job as a cook's assistant (boy cuisinier) with a Belgian company-Marsavco. He married in 1942. His mother, Mbengo Thérèse, was originally from KITADILA, in the district of BOKO. The couple had eight children in Léopoldville before the family was repatriated to Brazzaville in 1964 due to the political conflict between the two Congos. Etienne Toko was 2 years old at the time.

Etienne continued his education in Brazzaville, attending Mouléké Elementary School, in Ngampo Olilou and Application Middle Schools, as well as Revolution High School, before enrolling at INSSSA University. In 1986, at the age of 23, he began working at a hospital in Mossaka, in northern Congo-Brazzaville, where his son Lee was born. His other children-Best, Marrion, and Sephora-were born in Brazzaville, and his youngest, Shalom, was born in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Later, Etienne worked at Blanche Gomez Hospital and the University Hospital in Brazzaville. In 1990, he was awarded a scholarship by the U.S. Embassy to study Tropical Medicine at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. After learning English in Tucson, Arizona, he moved to Hawaii. Due to the civil war in Congo in 1993, Etienne remained in the United States. He eventually moved from Hawaii to settle in Denver, Colorado. He and his wife, Flore Toko, worked tirelessly to bring their four children to the United States in early 1996, just before the second civil war in Brazzaville in 1997.

Etienne earned a master's degree in healthcare administration, a master's in clinical regulatory affairs, and a PhD in pharmacology from the University of Colorado in Denver.

**Calling to Christ:**

Etienne Joseph Toko's love for the Lord Jesus Christ was evident from a young age. Raised in a Protestant family, he attended the Protestant church in Moukondo, where his parents served as deacons. Etienne joined the choir at the age of 12 and received prophecies that he would one day become a pastor. Despite these early signs, he initially resisted the call to preach.

At the age of 23, a profound spiritual awakening led him to embrace the message of the hour, culminating in his baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This decisive moment deepened his commitment to the message church he attended, where he faithfully served in various roles, including as a choir member, treasurer, and translator. Although he was asked to serve as a deacon in the church, Etienne, mindful of the earlier prophecy that foretold his future calling as a pastor, hesitated and ultimately declined the position.

After receiving another prophetic warning that his life would be cut short if he did not serve the Lord, Etienne finally accepted his pastoral calling. He was ordained by Pastor Pearry Green, who himself had been ordained by William Marrion Branham on November 21, 1965. Over the years, Etienne had developed a strong relationship with Pastor Green and had even resided with him during his stay in Arizona.

Following his ordination, Etienne founded Spoken Word Tabernacle in early 2009. For over 15 years, he passionately led the church, preaching the gospel and guiding many to Christ. Known for his unwavering dedication, Etienne shared the message of Jesus Christ and the message of the hour with anyone willing to listen, often evangelizing on the streets of Denver. His ministry was marked by signs, wonders, and a powerful sense of the supernatural at work.
