Etta Silas Jones was born on September 15, 1928, in Kilmichael, Mississippi, to Mose and Lilla Silas. From a young age, Etta's life was rooted in faith as she joined the church at an early age, dedicating herself to serving the Lord.
In her youth, Etta was an active member of the 4H Club and attended Elkhorn School, where she nurtured her love for learning and community involvement.
On August 13, 1956, she married John L. Jones in Montgomery County, Mississippi, beginning a journey of love and partnership that spanned decades.
Etta was a woman of many talents and passions. She found immense joy in cooking and entertaining, often filling her home with the warmth of family, friends, and laughter. Her green thumb was evident in the two gardens she maintained each year, ensuring that her family was well-provided for through her diligent canning and preserving. Creativity was another hallmark of Etta's life; she loved sewing and took pride in making beautiful outfits for her daughters.
Etta was a dedicated and devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet, IL for over 60 years. For many years she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She served on the Willing Workers committee for years. Her homemade ice cream and cakes were always a big hit at church functions.
Etta's love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a pillar in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched countless lives.
Etta worked for St. Patrick's Nursing Home, where her compassionate nature shone brightly. After years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of care and kindness.
Etta is preceded in death by her Husband, John L. Jones; beloved son, Charles Jones, grandson, Carnelle Jones; and stepdaughter, Marjorie Gunn.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her only surviving sibling, Roy L. Silas of Kilmichael, MS. She leaves her children in God's loving hands, Rose Ann Jones, Glenda Runyon, Billy E. Jones (Annette), and Jeanette Deloach; her grandchildren, Tilwana Anderson, Toinette Goston, Tuyet Hudson, Karisha Jones, Keyona Jones, Glenisha Runyon, Brandon Jones, Byron Jones, Cholie Mack, Tamara Jones, Jonathan McDowell, Clarence McDowell, Tyasia McDowell, and Matthew Deloach. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Etta will be reunited with her parents and her siblings, George, Monroe, Frank, Elzee, Jacy, Jessie, Mary Lee, Mozelle, and Mabel.
As we remember Etta, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life of love, service, and devotion. Though she has left this world, her spirit and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
