Eugene F. Beal, 92, of Connellsville, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his home.
He was born March 13, 1930, in Connellsville, to the late George and Marguerite Hyatt Beal.
He grew up with the late Irene and Mac Cable. He married Elsie Upton on Aug. 14, 1966, at the Little Summit U.M. Church.
In addition to his wife, Elsie, he is survived by a sister, Doris Reynolds of Connellsville; nieces, Penny and Bob Younkin, Tammy and Brian Miner and their family; nephew Chuck Reynolds (late wife Kim Reynolds); brother-in-law, Pete Smith of Little Summit; many special cousins and extended family, the Petrone boys and their spouses and Jenny and Dale Kinnick.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Robert Beal (1-1- 22) and Wally Cable (3-24- 16).
Gene graduated from Connellsville High School in 1948. He served in the Army National Guard after high school. He was retired from Duraloy Corp. in Scottdale in 1986 as a Radiographer.
In 1975, he started a marching group, Red, White and Blue Drum Corps with money he received from the former St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church. The group practiced at Little Summit U.M. Church for the 15 years that they marched. He was always proud of the group, which represented Connellsville throughout the area and won many awards.
Gene and his wife, Elsie, received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the City of Connellsville in 1984. In 1987, they received a plaque for the Drum Corps form Mayor Tom Duncan and the Festival Committee. In 1990, at their last parade, they received a plaque for the New Haven Hose Fire Co. for their service to the community. Gene always said the youth who marched in the group were the best.
He was active at the former Little Summit United Methodist Church as chair of the board and treasurer for the church for many years. He and his wife were youth leaders there for several years.
He was active in the Albright United Methodist Church of South Connellsville since 1994, where he served as chair of the trustees for several years.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and someone who prayed for others always.
