Eugene Best

Eugene Best Jr., 64, of Rochelle, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Smithfield, North Carolina, Eugene carried his roots with him throughout his life, and would always be willing to tell you a story about his life.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Best; mother, Brenda Cooke (Gibbs), Step-Father Bo Gibbs; Grandparents, George Cooke, Lucille Parrish, Richard Allen Best, and Ruby Catherine Edwards; wife, Melissa Joy Ramsey Best; and Nephew, Billy Sims.

He is survived by his children, Zeke Best, Raven Cimbalnik and Michele Thompson; siblings, Jay Gibbs, Luann Willard and her husband Jack of Rochelle, Georgia, Denise Gordon of Tifton, Georgia, Venita Williams of Tifton, Georgia, and Cathy Childs and her husband David of Cordele, Georgia; In-Laws: Don Ramsey, Barb Ramsey, Jerry Vanway, Linda Vanway. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Eugene was a loving father, caring brother, and loyal friend. His laugh could fill any room, and his humor was legendary among those who knew him. He believed that almost anything could be fixed with duct tape, a simple reflection of his problem-solving nature. He cherished family, shared stories from his childhood, and always offered a helping hand when someone needed it.

In his later years, Eugene deepened his relationship with the Lord and became a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Rochelle, Georgia. His faith brought him comfort, and strengthened the values he shared with family and friends.

Though his life was cut short by illness, Eugene's legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched with his presence and anyone he shared a laugh with. He will be remembered for his strength, his compassion, and the laughter he brought to those around him.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Rochelle Georgia on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 a.m., with service to begin at 11:00. A meal will be provided for the family after the service.
