Eugene Charles Bissonette Waokiya Wicasta "Helping Man" was born on August 12, 1975 to the late Seth (Chico) Bissonette and Sophie (Bluedog) Bissonette in Sisseton SD. He journeyed to the Spirit World on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Eugene was a proud member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate and a member of the Long Hollow District. He was also Oglala Lakota from his father's side.
Eugene resided in Peever SD with his wife Cari (Ironheart) Bissonette. Eugene spent the majority of his life in Sisseton but also resided in Cannonball ND, Stilwell Oklahoma, and Watertown SD.
He graduated from Tiospa Zina in 1995; he was a natural athlete, it was exciting watching him play basketball, softball, and football. Eugene enjoyed traveling with the Buffalo Lake singers all over singing at powwows. Eugene also liked spending time with his siblings. Every time all of them were together they would tease and crack jokes on each other.
He worked various jobs in his life, from Security at DMC where he worked his way up to supervisor, the buffalo farm, Woodland, and construction. He also really enjoyed working at Tiospa Zina Tribal School, he liked working with the kids and they really liked him as well.
He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, playing outdoors, spending time at the lake and fishing with his brothers. He also loved singing Dakota to his grandkids. He was known to his nieces and nephews as the goofy uncle, always teasing, he had nicknames for all of them. They all had a nickname for him, one special nickname was "Uncle Caveman." He was a very kind hearted man, always shook your hand with a smile. Eugene would help anyone out when asked or called upon.
