Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burbage Funeral Home - Berlin on May 12, 2025.
Eugene Franklin Deinlein, Jr., age 78, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at his home in Selbyville, Delaware. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, he was the son of the late Eugene Franklin Deinlein, Sr., and Mary Winona (Brown) Deinlein.
Gene was a Class of 1964 graduate of St. Marys High School in Annapolis MD. After graduation, Gene attended Anne Arundel Community College for one year before joining the Navy in May of 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Marceron, on August 6, 1966. Gene served in the United States Navy for four years as an Aviation Ordnanceman aboard the USS Independence (CVA 62), leaving the Navy in 1970 at the rank of Petty Officer. The same year, Gene attended Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #102 Vocational Training School. He spent the next 35 years working in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. He worked for multiple companies including Hamilton and Spiegel, JCJ, and Benedict Metal. Upon retirement, he and Marie moved to Selbyville, DE where they enjoyed watching the herons and eagles and going to the falls uncrowded beaches in each others company.
Gene was a loving husband, caring father and grandfather, and dedicated veteran. He spent years happily supporting, and sometimes even coaching, his family at swim meets, football games, lacrosse tournaments, and any other extracurricular his three children enjoyed. Gene was bitten by the travel bug during his time in the Navy. During retirement, he was able to share his love of travel with Marie and they enjoyed visiting multiple countries throughout Europe and taking cruise ship adventures.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marie Deinlein, two sons, Joe Deinlein (Karen), and Eric Deinlein (Tammi), a daughter, Ann Pugh (Randy), eight grandchildren, A.T.
