Eugene Edwards, 84, affectionately known as "Jack," passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Jack was born in
High Point, NC, son of the late Isabella Palmer and Matthew Edwards, and was one of ten children. He was raised and attended school in North Carolina, and in 1959, at the age of 18, he moved to New York City. In 1960, he was introduced to Mary Davis who became the love of his life, and in 1961, Jack and Mary married and started their family. Of their union, they had three children and raised them in the
Bronx, NY. Jack dedicated many years of his life working at the Manufacturing Company Farberware, where his hard work and commitment earned the respect of many colleagues and the admiration of all who worked alongside him. He approached every task with integrity and diligence, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know and work with him.
Jack was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, and loyal friend to many. He lived a life filled with kindness, wisdom, and compassion. He will be remembered for his warm smile, caring heart, and unwavering generosity that touched everyone he met. His legacy of love, compassion, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, Jack's spirit and the memories he leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort those who loved him.
Beyond his career, Jack found joy in sports, taking road trips and driving, and often drove south to visit family. Basketball was one of his favorite sports, alongside golf, and he was a semi-pro basketball player in his younger years, sharing countless treasured moments with family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Edwards, Jack leaves to celebrate his life, his children, Eugene Edwards, John Edwards and his wife Denise, and Jacqueline "Renee" Hartfield and her husband Floyd; his grandchildren, Alyssa Pines, Justin Collins, Jordan Collins, Iresha Reid and her husband Dean, Tharina Falcon and her husband Jason Falcon, Abdul Brown and his wife Shavone, and John Brown and his wife Adeena; his great grandchildren, Dominic Collins, Elijah Hicks, Jalen Brown, Aydin Brown, Jacob Brown, Aaron Brown, Jamir Brown, Amias Brown, Amari Brown, Elena Brown, Nielem Reid, Dean Reid, Jr., Logan Reid, Illiana Reid, Savannah Brown, and Ariana Brown; great-great granddaughter, Makalia Brown; his 92 year old sister, Cora Boatwright; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Matthew Edwards, Jr., Robert Lee Edwards, William Edwards, John Lynn Edwards, Almetta Jackson, and Curtis Edwards.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7, 9-10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life, 10 am., at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 45 Daly Ave., New Britain.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
