Gene was born on August 9th, 1948, in Alpena, Michigan. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
Gene was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, and strong work ethic. He was always tinkering-taking things apart and, more often than not, putting them back together, fixed and ready to go. A highly skilled mechanical engineer, he dedicated many years to Wirtz Manufacturing Company.
Family was Gene's greatest priority, sometimes to a fault. He encouraged and supported each of his three children in a way that suited them best, allowing them to grow and thrive in their own unique ways. He loved his wife with all his heart and worked tirelessly to ensure she had a wonderful life, caring for and helping her every day.
Gene was never one to ask for help-he quietly shouldered whatever came his way, always taking care of everything and everyone without complaint. He and his wife, Joan, were an unstoppable team, overcoming any obstacle together. Though a man of few words, you always knew he was there for you and that he loved you-no matter what.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Joan Fochtman; his children, Jason (Meghan), Brian (Angie), and Nicole, along with her beloved dogs, Chitza, Eva, Skyler, and Xander; and his cherished grandchildren, Colleen, Andrew, and Michael.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church - 1331 7th St. Port Huron on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM, with Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. His memory will forever be treasured by all who knew him.
