While at home, Gene Gibson, 87, slipped peacefully into the arms of his blessed Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
Gene, son of the late PaPa Bryan Gibson and Ma Kate Gibson of Hawkinsville lived all of his married life in the Bonaire community that he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ambrose Gibson, Henry Gibson, Melvin Gibson, Andrew Gibson, Herman Gibson, Sam Gibson, Bud Gibson, Carl Gibson and his sisters Eldonzie Hodge and Rachel Harbuck.
Gene grew up in a large family on various farms and learned early to work for what he wanted. He worked for Coca-Cola, Armstrong Cork Company, Civil Service, Houston County Sheriff’s Department and Centerville Police Department. His true love was working with the people in law enforcement. He was a loyal and dedicated friend.
Gene also operated a business at Smiley’s Flea Market where he sold Office and School Supplies for 20 years. He was a friendly, people person and enjoyed waiting on the children that came into his business.
He was a longtime member of Bonaire First Baptist Church in Bonaire where he held various positions. He was previous on the building committee and a Jr. Deacon. He loved his Lord, his family, his country and his friends. So many neighbors and church friends have reached out to him in his illness that has meant so much.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Laura Galletly Gibson, one daughter Laurie A. Gibson of Macon two brothers in-law, Collin Galletly (Becky) of Irondale, AL and David Moore (Georgie) of Bristol England; grandchildren, Phillip Owens (Kim) of Bonaire, Courtney (Bryan) Wright, Littleton, Co., Christopher Wyatt, Macon, Ga, great granddaughter Faye Wright, Littleton, Co. and a friend as close as a son, Shane Williams (Eddie).
Flowers are welcome but memorial donations can be given in memory of Gene Gibson to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries, 9250 Hutchinson Ferry Road, Palmetto, GA 30268 or the Bonaire First Baptist Church building fund, P.O Box 179, Bonaire, GA 31005.
Visitation will be Friday July 18, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins , GA. Afterwards, Gene will be laid to rest in the Bonaire Cemetery.
