Eugene Frank Himmel (Gene), age 79, of Brown City, formerly of Lake Orion, passed away on September 4, 2025, at Stonegate Village in Sandusky, Michigan. Gene was born February 19, 1946, in Brown City, to the late Frank and Aletha (Muxlow) Himmel. He was a member of the Brown City Missionary Church where he had many family members and friends. He graduated from Brown City High School in 1964. He attended Flint Junior college for 2 years and then graduated from Western University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1968. He obtained his master's in business from Michigan University. Gene as a young man worked his family's farm, he loved working the land and working with his Uncle Keith and Uncle Arnold and cousins. His first job working as a Mechanical Engineer was with Chrysler Corp. in 1968. He was then drafted into the US Army, where he served from 1969 to 1971 at US Army Artic Test Center, Fort Greely "fort freeze", Alaska. When he returned home, he continued to work at Chrysler, he was transferred to General Dynamics. He left General Dynamics and went to AM General to the start-up of the military HUMVEE (Hummer) program. After the program was winding down, he returned to Chrysler Corp. where he retired from the SRT group in 2008. He was responsible for vehicle safety of the Chrysler SRT line. He enjoyed his time with this project.

Eugene is survived by his wife Cheryl (Wagner) Himmel. One son, Joshua Michael Himmel. One sister Janet Chambers.

He was preceded in death by nephew Brad Chambers.

Gene loved hunting and was able to get a record Antelope that made the Boone and Crocket records. He loved traveling to Germany and Mexico for Chrysler. His favorite was when he went to hunt and trips to Alaska. As a young man he was a fast car enthusiast. He was also a lover of animals, especially his dogs and cats. He was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor, generous with helping others, and loved by his family and friends. He will be missed.

Thanks to Stonegate Village memory staff for their caring and excellent care of Gene, and Hospice for making him comfortable in his last days.

No funeral or showing will be held.
