Eugene Hischke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gruetzmacher Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Suring on Jan. 29, 2026.
Eugene Hischke, age 91 of Suring, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was born on June 8, 1934 to the late Leonard and Leah Hischke.

For 67 years, Eugene hauled milk with dedication and pride, seldom taking a day off. A farmer at heart, he loved the land and enjoyed beef farming, growing pumpkins, and the steady routines of rural life.

Eugene was deeply involved in his community and gave countless hours in service to the Town of How. He served as Fire Chief and was instrumental in helping establish the Labor Day tractor pulls. He also helped build the town's ball diamonds and volleyball court, creating spaces where generations of families and youth could gather, play, and build memories.

Family meant everything to Eugene. He shared 71 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce, building a life grounded in commitment, hard work, and love. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took great pride in his family.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Bruce; grandchildren, Kate (Lee) Mikle, Kolia (Lee Zhuckkahosee Jr.) Hischke, Kyla (fiancé Bert) Hischke, and Klint (fiancée Kristin) Hischke; great-grandchildren, Madyson Mikle, Maizy Mikle, and Greyson Jones; brother and sisters, Gary (Doris) Hischke, Lynne Makholm, and Lola (Larry) Kitzman; brothers-in-law, Stan (LaVonne) Suring and Lowell (Carol) Suring. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sharon Nelson and Dale Hischke; sister-in-law, Margaret McMahon.

In keeping with Eugene's wishes, a private, family service was held. The family appreciates the kindness, memories, and support shared during this time. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.

Eugene will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of farming, dedication to his community, and the lasting impact he made through a life well lived.

My condolences to the family. I have vivid memories of my childhood anticipating the coming of the milkman on the farm when i stayed there .We received news of the area and ice cream and ice cream bars in the truck for delivery. I always enjoyed talking to him later in life.
