Eugene Jarreau Obituary
Eugene Andrew Jarreau, Jr. was born September 28, 1953, in New Roads, Louisiana to Eugene "Gene" Joseph Jarreau, Sr. and Geneva "Poon" Webb Jarreau.
Eugene accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, LA.
He had a gentle and quiet soul, and he went by the nickname "Papa." He lived a life of simplicity and independence and was known for his reserved nature and solitude. Though he kept to himself, those who knew him understood that behind his quiet demeanor was a thoughtful and observant man.
He attended Rosenwald Elementary and High School. He played football for the Rosenwald High School Trojans, graduating from Rosenwald in 1971. After graduating from high school, he attended Spencer College, graduating with a business degree. He worked as an orderly at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, in New Roads. He also worked at the oil mill.
He is survived by his former wife; Gloria Smith Jarreau, a daughter, LaTanya (Sulemana) Ziblim; grandchildren, Darius and Treylan Jarreau and Abdul-Kudus Sulemana; a sister, Marilyn Jarreau Demoulin; aunt and classmate, Kathleen Webb George; uncle, Russell (Everbell) Jarreau, and a nephew Charles Renee Demoulin.
He is preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents, parents, son Eugene A. Jarreau, III, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
