New Iberia – Graveside services will be held at Holy Family Cemetery at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026, for Eugene James Mouton, 91, who passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Gueydan Memorial Nursing Home in Gueydan.
Deacon Joshua LeBlanc will officiate.
A native of Welsh, and a resident of New Iberia, Eugene James Mouton was born on October 15, 1934, to the late Wilfred and Eula Mae Monceaux Mouton. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. His time in the military instilled in him values that guided him throughout his life—integrity, courage, and a fierce loyalty to those he loved.
Eugene's career began in the oilfield, where he worked diligently as a roughneck and motorman. His commitment to service and community extended beyond the oilfield, as he transitioned to a role as a driver for the parish government. His work ethic was a testament to his character, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Eugene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid duck hunter and a passionate fisherman, relishing the tranquility that came from being outdoors. Gardening and yard work provided him with a connection to nature, allowing him to nurture both plants and his love for life itself. For a time, he even raised rabbits, reflecting his ability to care for and appreciate all living things.
However, the greatest blessing in Eugene's life was his family. He treasured the moments spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. His laughter and stories will forever echo in our hearts.
Mr. Mouton is survived by his children, Darrell Mouton (Mary) of Gueydan, Debra Monte (Keith) of New Iberia, Tina Mouton (Verna) of Breaux Bridge, and Chip Mouton (Kelly) of Breaux Bridge; sister, Gardline Vallo of Gueydan; daughter-in-law, Crystal Mouton; 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Theresa Borel Mouton; son, Burney Mouton; grandchildren, Linzi Romero and Shannon Mouton; and siblings, Warren Mouton, Marion Conner, Melvin Mouton, and Buddy Mouton.
Eugene will be deeply missed but his memory will live in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
