Thomaston – Eugene (Gene) W. Ozerhoski was born on Christmas eve, December 24, 1935, in Waterbury. He was the only son of Walter and Helen (Bulbacienski) Ozerhoski. He was the husband of Helen (Willis) Ozerhoski, and they happily celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Thomaston, graduated from Thomaston High School, class of 1953 and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in September of 1953. He trained at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune, NC and his service tours included Japan and Okinawa. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. And was honorably discharged after four years of service in 1957.
Returning to private life, Gene was employed by Seth Thomas Clock Company for 3 years in the engineering dept. He joined the CT State Police in 1960 and after 24 years of service he retired in 1984 with the rank of Sgt. Prior to joining the State Police, he attended and graduated from the Hartford Institute of Criminology. While in the State Police, he was assigned to the State Police Forensic Police Lab in Bethany as a fingerprint expert with Dr. henry Lee, renowned criminologist. Upon retirement from the State Police, Gene was also well known as a local taxidermist who owned and operated his business for 35 years. He was also an exceptional award-winning wood carver. He was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for 7.5 years, a member of the Parish Council and shared his singing voice in the church senior choir.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he leaves his only daughter, Jeanne M. Boll of Thomaston; two sons, Steven A. Ozerhoski and John D. Ozerhoski, both of Torrington; his grandchildren, Thomas Nickerson, Carley and her husband Steve Chouinard, Steven, Jr and his wife Maegan, Hadley, Ilaria and Jennifer and her husband Agni Fejzulai; his sister, Joan Maloney of Thomaston and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marianne Duval.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 23, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church.
