Eugene Pennington Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 29, 2026.
Eugene "Sonny" Pennington passed away on December 9, 2025, after a long journey with Parkinson's disease and dementia.

Sonny was born in Rogers, Arkansas, to Ida and Eugene Pennington Sr. He spent his early years in Rogers before moving to Washington in the late 1960s. In his youth, Sonny traveled with his family, sharing their faith and evangelizing.

Sonny enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1963 and was stationed at NAS Barber's Point in Oahu, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in February 1967. After his service, he moved to Washington State and served as a police officer in Snoqualmie. He also worked as a security officer for Boeing.

On April 25, 1992, Sonny married the love of his life, Dianne. Together, they owned and operated Agape Construction during the mid to late 1990s. He later worked as a truck driver for two years and as an airport shuttle driver for six years before taking medical leave.

Sonny is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne Pennington; children, Doreen, April, Robin, and Brittany; stepchildren, Carrie, Tina, and Brian; sisters, Kathy and Mary; brothers, Carey and David; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who were dear to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Eugene Sr.; his son, Eugene III; his grandson, Joseph; and his sisters, Faye and Joanne.

Known for his kind heart, positive spirit, and unwavering faith in God, Sonny's life was marked by love, compassion, and devotion to family. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Willow Springs for the loving care they provided, to Associate Pastor Rich Siegel for faithfully visiting and praying for Sonny every Tuesday, and to Brookside Funeral Home for their compassion and support during this difficult time.

Scripture:

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." -- Revelation 21:4

A Celebration of Life will be held at Christian Life Center, 716 North 40th Avenue, Yakima, WA, on January 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

Sonny will be forever remembered in our hearts, and his legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
