With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Eugene William Peterson, a beloved father, poppop, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away at the age of 69.
He was a man of remarkable character, known for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and the quiet pride he took in doing things the right way. A skilled mechanic, he dedicated many years of service working for the Town of Hempstead, where his hard work, reliability, and mechanical knowledge earned the respect of his coworkers and community.
He took great pride in fixing everything himself — whether it was a car, a boat, or something in his home. He loved rising early each morning, often before the sun, to begin working on projects and taking care of whatever needed attention. That early start to the day was part of who he was: dependable, disciplined, and always ready to lend a hand. His hands were rarely still, and he found purpose in caring for and maintaining the things and people he loved. He was always taking care of others before himself, offering his time, skills, and heart without ever expecting anything in return. A true car enthusiast, he was the proud owner of his beloved boat, Corvette and Mustangs, which brought him immense joy and were a source of pride throughout his life.
His deep love for animals was evident in the way he cared for them, treating every pet like family. He had a gentle heart and a special bond with animals, finding comfort and joy in their presence.
He found joy in boating and fishing aboard the White Rum, passions that brought him peace and happiness. He recently retired to Florida, fulfilling a lifelong dream by purchasing his dream home and embracing retirement exactly as he had hoped. He loved to cook and host summer barbecues, creating lasting memories around the grill with those he loved most.
Above all, he cherished his daughters, adored his grandchildren and grand-cats, and loved his family fiercely. He lived a life of service, always putting others first and quietly taking care of everyone around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and selflessness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Donations are welcome for the family to cover funeral costs and can be sent to Paulette or Kimberly directly. Thank you.
