Eugene Setterman passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on May 30, 1942, to Joel and Myra Setterman.

He served in the United States Navy, proudly serving from 1960–1964. Eugene enjoyed golfing with his friends and traveling, especially cruises during his retirement years. He also found joy and fellowship in Bible study, which was an important part of his spiritual life.

He is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Melinda) Setterman and Mark Setterman; his wife, Gloria Setterman; and his former wife, Linda Pandel Hamm. Other surviving family members include his stepchildren Julie (Tom) Radlinger; James (Judy) Armstrong and Jodi (Paul) Krause; grandchildren Travis (Angeliea) Hill, Becky (Travis) Bruch, Tyler Radlinger, Gage Armstrong, Trey Armstrong, Andrea (Mason) Reinhardt, Katelyn Krause, and Natalie Krause; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Eugene's siblings include Michael (Brenda) Setterman, Myrna Hilgart, Barbara (Donald) Michalski, Linda Liebelt, Susan (Michael) Schnautz, Vicki (Cliff) Myzska, and Debora (Allen) Thimm. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Carol Mantik, Nancy Armstrong, Ruby (Don) Peissig, and Sally (Mark) Arndt, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Setterman and Myra (Smart) Setterman Haegerl; his stepfather, Norman Haegerl; siblings Carol Murphy, Raymond Setterman, and Roger Setterman; in-laws Elnora Setterman Liebelt, Donald Murphy, Robert Hilgart, Donald Liebelt, Jerry Mantik, and Bruce Armstrong.

A service will be held on August 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Community Church in Wausau, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of Eugene's service to his country.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, a ministry that reflects Eugene's lifelong faith and commitment to serving others.

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging." - Psalm 46:1–3

Gloria and family,
Words alone cannot express the sadness I know you are feeling. You take comfort in knowing that Gene is in Heaven and you will see him again some day, yet selfishly you wish he were here on earth with you. Making you laugh, telling a story or giving you a hug! Instead you are left with beautiful memories. We are all blessed to have had Gene touch our lives even if it was just the kind, warm, welcoming Hello that took place at a family gathering. He always made time to great us all! Gloria and family, Gene would want the best for each of you and to remember him in good times. So pick a memorable and special story, hold it close to your heart, share it with others, and know that Gene is there next to you sharing the story too. God Bless.

So sorry to hear of Gene´s passing.A few of us from Wausau would go to ParkFalls every Father´s Day and play in a golf tournament.Gene was very welcoming and we always had a great time hanging out with him.He even took us to a birthday party in Butternut one year.Great guy!

Many fond memories of Gene being part of our Friday Morning Men´s Bible Study and our golfing five-some of Gene, Larry, Herbie, Jack and Dave. Gene always brought bananas for our group. I imagine Gene will again bring bananas when we one day play the golf courses together in Heaven. We miss him.
