Eugene Shaffer

MILLERSBURG - Eugene F. Shaffer, 90, of Millersburg died February 4, 2026 at his home. He was born on December 16, 1935 in Herndon RD, the son of the late George W and Sarah L Shaffer.

He was married to his wife Shirley for 67 years. Eugene was a graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School, Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1963.

He enjoyed driving and caring for his antique and classic cars, playing euchre at the Millersburg Moose, as well as spending the winter months in Florida.

He was a member of IOOF Mahanoy Lodge #551, Dornsife and Susquehanna Lodge #364 F&AM, Millersburg and a past member of the Millersburg Lions Club. He was also a member of the Hershey chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

He started his banking career at Farmers State Bank, Dalmatia in 1956 and he continued working in banking for 50 years until retiring in 2006 as President and CEO of Mid Penn Bancorp.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Shaffer, sons Scott (Debbie) and Todd, and daughter Donna Crawford (Michael), as well as granddaughters Michelle, Deanna (Andre) and grandsons Joshua, Jonathan (Macy), Robert (Courtney), and Aaron. He is also survived by a sister Anna Mae Mentzer. He was preceded in death by his brothers Norman, Roy, George, and William and sister Margaret Baumert, as well as a half brother John and half sisters Merle Grim and Sarah Shaffer.

In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial donation to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1473 Urban Rd, Herndon, PA 17830-7241. A remembrance service will be held at 5:00 PM at St Paul's Church Cemetery in Urban on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
