Eugene Slagel Obituary
Eugene (Gene) Allen Slagel, 84 of Midland, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025 at Nottingham Place of Midland. He was born to Allen and Maryane (Ropp) Slagel on April 24, 1940 in Ithaca, MI. He married the love of his life Barbara Elaine Whitford on March 30, 1963.
Gene was known by his quick wit and warm smile. He played Softball for decades. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the Tigers. He was at home in his garden and his woodworking shop. Gene was a member of the Gideons Intl. and a committed participant and leader in the church. More than anything, Gene was devoted to his family and gave himself fully to his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his wife; Barbara Elaine Slagel, children; Faith (Terry) Gardner, and Steve (Barbara Jean) Slagel, grandchildren; Erica Gardner, Carrie (Eric) Scholten, Trent (Emily) Gardner, Luke (Nicky) Slagel, and Andrew (Megan) Slagel, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings; Shirley Litwiller, Lynn (Cindy) Slagel, Mary Ellen (Ed) Bessinger, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on March 27, 2025 at New Hope Community Church of Midland with Pastor Keith Harris officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 26, 2025 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church the next morning.
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a donation to Heartland Home Hospice in his honor.
