Eugene R. Staab, age 87, of Chillicothe, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at his home.
Gene was born on December 23, 1936 in Peoria, IL to the late Robert E. and Velma I. (Hicks) Staab. He married Barbara L. Linquist on May 1, 1960 in Keokuk, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1991.
Surviving are his children, Stephen R. Staab and Amy L. (Michael) Suhr, all of Chillicothe, IL; his grandchildren, Cameron Crider, Brody (Tess) Crider l, Tyler Suhr, Payton Suhr, Kristie Staab, Stephen Staab, all of Chillicothe, IL and Kirsten (Jared) Johnson of Portland, OR; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. Also surviving is his sister, Geraldine Sylvia Staab of Chico, CA.
Gene graduated from Chillicothe High and then continued his education at Colorado A&M as well as Western IL University. During college he met his Barbara he was soon drafted by U.S. Army being stationed in Baltimore and later Germany. After the Army he moved back to IL to work for the Santa Fe Railroad which sparked his love and interest for model trains. He later worked for Jacobson & Dahl in East Peoria and then as a courier for the Dental Arts Lab in Peoria, IL.
Gene was an active member of the Chillicothe Bible Church and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed photography, cycling, gardening and wood work. He spent the last 15 years kayaking in the HLC (Henry, Lacon, Chillicothe) Jaunt. But more than anything he lived spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 11am at Chillicothe Bible Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 4pm to 6pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe as well as one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will follow the service at LaSalle Cemetery in Rome, IL. Memorials in Gene's name may be made to the church.
