On the evening of August 23, 2024, Eugene Keith Stayton, affectionately known as Gene, passed away peacefully after a brave seventeen-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family, who remained by his side until his final moments.
Gene is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Dawn; his cherished daughters, Margaret, Laura, and Donna; and his beloved grandchildren, Camilla, Kaleb, Giannii, Valentino, and Ashlynn. Born in Camp Hanford, Washington, Gene's life was marked by his service in the Army at the young age of 17, an experience that profoundly shaped his character and values. Following his military service, he pursued a career in the culinary arts, where he became well-known for his exceptional breakfast dishes. Gene was particularly celebrated for his perfectly cooked eggs, sausage patties, and hash browns, earning admiration from all who had the pleasure of enjoying his meals.
Gene was a man of profound kindness and honesty, always true to himself and those around him. He shared a special bond with his grandson Kaleb, spending countless hours together playing video games like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Shadow of War. Gene's love and spirit extended to his family, including Donna's children, who hold dear his fond storytelling and the cherished memories of his vibrant life.
Gene's legacy is one of selflessness, warmth, and authenticity. He embraced the uniqueness of each individual and lived his life with a delicate kindness that touched everyone he met. His light and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
