Sweet, Eugene Paul of Watertown, MN died peacefully on August 14, 2024 at the age of 97. Survived by his wife of 13 years, Karen. Married 60 years to his wife, Rose Marie, until her death in 2010. Survived by Gene and Rose's 6 daughters: Deborah (John) Stelfox, Jan (Steve) Jenkins, Linda (Bob) McCoy, Mary Sweet, Nancy (Jeff) Twidwell, Carol (Pat) Koness; grandchildren: Sean (Jessica) Stelfox, Sara (Jamie) Lightner, Chris Jenkins (deceased), Eric Stein, Katie Twidwell, Jeffry (Katie) Twidwell, Christie Koness (Dan Horvath), and Br. John of the Cross (Blake Koness); great-grandchildren: Ryan, Caitlin and Lana Stelfox, Cayman and Jace Lightner, Alex Coakley, Jeffry and James Twidwell, Cecelia Koness. Gene grew up in Springfield, Il where his career with Pillsbury began at age 16 in the grain mill and ended 42 years later in Minneapolis as a Divisional Transportation Manager. Gene served in the Air Force until 11/9/45 when WWII ended. He was a man of great faith and found peace and connection in nature. He realized his dream of owning a farm in 1972 and enjoyed 50 years on Sunset Crest Farm, sharing this passion with his beloved family and friends. Horses brought him great joy, most notably, his Belgians. Many people knew Gene as a cowboy who loved everything Western. "So long Gene. You will be missed. It's been a great ride!"
Mass of Christian Burial at St Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria, MN on Thursday, August 22 with Visitation at 10:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow at church. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House, 8243 Demontreville Trail N, Lake Elmo, MN 55042 or St Victoria Catholic Church 8228 Victoria Dr, Victoria, MN 55386.
