Eugene "Gene" E. Tewes
Reunited with his beloved wife Darlene (Nee Heidger) on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of 91. Lovingly survived by his sons Mark of Oconomowoc and Steve (Beth) Tewes of Muskego; Grandchildren Michelle (Jeremy) Kruckeberg of Richfield, MN; Brad Falls, of Triangle, VA; Valerie and Alec Tewes; great grandson Anders Kruckeberg.
Gene loved the great outdoors, an avid hunter and fisherman who found solace in the serenity of nature. His skills were many, whether he was engaged in a patient wait during a hunt, spending a day fishing, mentoring young minds as a dedicated Cub Scoutmaster or crafting a woodworking project. An exceptional trap shooter and an even greater storyteller, Gene captivated friends and family with tales as vivid as life itself, often punctuated by his sparkling humor. His remarkable memory was a treasure trove of history and anecdotes that he generously shared with all.
Gene's independence was a hallmark of his character, just as much as the love he showered upon his cherished wife Darlene. Gene and Darlene spent countless hours as motorcycle enthusiasts. Through time they traveled the country and although lifetime residents of Wisconsin, spent a couple of years in Burbank, CA only to realize their true home was Wisconsin. Their first home was in West Allis, before building a home in Delafield, WI and then eventually becoming residents of The Regency in Muskego.
Gene was always serving people in the career choices he made. He worked for the City of West Allis, as his father before him was a professional firefighter for the West Allis Fire Department and ended his career retiring from Wisconsin Electric Power after 30 plus years of service.
His family came first yet he was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbors and friends. To say Gene was a jokester is an understatement; his quick wit and playful banter brought smiles to many. Those fortunate enough to have known him will remember a man who embodied the very essence of a loving, generous, and gentle soul. Gene's memory will be forever embraced by the myriad of lives he touched.
Thank you to the doctors and nursing professionals at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Angels Grace Hospice who provided care and comfort in the most difficult time of his life.
