Eugene Dale Trapp was born on May 28, 1946, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Dale and Sylva (Rohlfs) Trapp and one of five children in the family. Gene grew up in the Milbank area and graduated from Corona High School.
On July 10, 1971, Gene married Deborah Lambert, and together they made their home in Milbank. Gene milked cows, farmed with his father, and did custom combining while living in the country near Twin Brooks. Eventually, they moved into Milbank, where Gene worked for Milbank Public Schools as a custodian for over 25 years. During his time with the school system, he worked in all three buildings and sometimes had his son or one of his grandchildren “helping” him.
Gene could often be found in his heated garage, working on projects. He had a lifelong passion for cars, whether attending dirt track races in Aberdeen and Watertown, watching races of all kinds on TV, or building model cars to expand his model car and diecast collections. Gene had the patience of a saint when assembling the tiniest of pieces for his model cars. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Gene will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Debbie Trapp of Milbank, SD; daughter, Michele (Bill) Huspek of Chanhassen, MN; son, Brent (Pamela) Trapp of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Mason (Deja), Rylee (Bennett), Evan and Avery; step-grandchildren: Shae and Ethan; great-grandson, Kyren; brother, Gary Trapp of Yelm, WA; sisters: Donna (Ron) Moon of Ankeny, IA; Renae (Dennis) Wick of Kissimmee, FL; and Tammy (Clayton) Severson of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
