Eugene Wurdinger Obituary

Gene passed peacefully Tuesday at age 93 with his family by his side. He was born to Matt and Arley Wurdinger and spent his childhood in Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gerry; daughters, Amy (Greg) Carey, and Mandy Hauser; sons, Eric (Akiko) Wurdinger, and Brian (Jamie) Wurdinger; grandchildren, Jenna Hauser, Sophia Wurdinger, and Maximilian Wurdinger; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Arleta Cromwell.
After high school graduation, he served his country honorably in the US army and is a Korean War veteran. He graduated with an electrical engineering degree from Colorado University, then continued his education while working at GE, where he spent over 30 years until his retirement.
Gene was always involved in his kids' activities including scouts, sports and band. His family enjoyed vacations in Myrtle Beach and looked forward to biennial Pearson family reunions. Traveling continued after Gene and Gerry retired. They loaded up the RV and toured the country, including many National Parks. He was proud to say he visited all 50 states. Gene loved playing bridge and traveled to numerous tournaments up and down the East coast. He also enjoyed golfing and spending summer weekends at the family cottage on the St Lawrence River. The family home was the gathering place for Thanksgiving dinners, and he never missed a Syracuse basketball or football game on TV.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/).
