Eupha Elnora Smith, of Tazewell, was born March 26, 1939, and passed away on February 19, 2025. A lifelong resident of Claiborne County, Eupha's life is best summarized by the word "care." Eupha selflessly cared for her family. She was married to her husband, Pete, for 65 years, raising 4 children. She then helped raise 3 grandchildren, never letting them leave her home without a meal.
Eupha cared for her friends, always eager to help in any way. Eupha also cared for her career, working many years at Donlin Sportswear before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Claiborne Nursing Home. Eupha displayed her caring nature at the nursing home for over 30 years before retiring in 2019. Eupha cared for her community, serving as a member and officer of the Tazewell Jaycettes and in the kitchen at the Claiborne County Fair. Eupha's Famous Soup Beans remain a top menu item in the fair kitchen to this day. Above all else, Eupha cared.
Eupha was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Billy Charles "Pete" Smith; parents Herman and Bessie Alston; sisters Jewel Nelson and Nan Gregory; brothers Ray Alston, Pete Alston, Beverly "Bug" Alston, and H.L. Alston; and her beloved son H.L. Smith. She is survived by her daughters Sherry Hurst, Charlotte Seals and husband Ron, and Donna Burnette; grandchildren Tiyawnah Miracle, Tyler Hurst, and Joshua Smith (wife Rebekah); great-grandchildren Allyson Miracle, Hezekiah Smith, Josiah Smith, and Moriah Smith; sister in law Florence Alston; best friend Georgie Bowman; her nursing home crew whom she loved dearly; special friends and neighbors Rodney and Tracy Cochran; and beloved dog Julio.
The family would like to thank the Claiborne Health and Rehabilitation Center and Covenant Hospice for their excellent care of Eupha. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the funeral at Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, February 25 at 11 a.m. at the Irish Cemetery. Minister: Bill Duncan Music: David Painter
