Eva Maria Dotson

Eva Maria Ziegler was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1946, in Bad Neustadt, Germany. She was the daughter of Johann Ziegler and Helene (Pfaff) Zeigler and was raised with nine other siblings.
She met Billie R. Dotson who was stationed in Germany as a member of the United States Army. The couple was married in 1968, and they were blessed with a son Mike the same year before moving to the U.S. Later they were blessed with a second son: Eric.
For thirty-five years, Eva was employed by the City of Wyandotte as a custodian amongst other responsibilities. She spent her whole career working at the Benjamin F. Yack Ice Arena, retiring in 2002.
Although Eva was a homebody, she looked forward to visiting Germany on multiple occasions. She was not the typical quiet granny. Eva loved to have fun and was very animated. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones and especially playing cards, with euchre and Michigan rummy being her favorites.
Eva was typically the life of the party. She liked to poke fun at others and laugh at herself. Family gatherings were always a favorite pastime, none more so than her Birthday/Christmas. She enjoyed watching action movies and murder mysteries. Eva loved her cats and always had room in her home for one more.
Eva Maria Dotson, age 78 of Southgate passed away at Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte at 1:11am on Saturday; February 22, 2025. Her passing was preceded by her parents; seven siblings: Waldemar, Heinz, Kurt, Hermann, Anni, Elfriede, and Erna; and a grandson: Nathan Dotson.
To cherish her memory, she leaves two children: Mike (Sonia) Dotson of Monroe and Eric Paul (Sharon) Dotson of Southgate; four grandchildren: Kyle (Miranda) Dotson, Jason Dmytruz, Miah Dmytruz, and Jefferson Vazquez; a great granddaughter: Eva Dotson; and two siblings: Paul Ziegler and Maria Zeigler both of Germany.
Friends may gather from 12:00pm until 4:00pm on Friday; February 28, 2025, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 4:00pm with Pastor Tim Iocoangeli of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
